An American cultural centre could be opening in Luxembourg City if plans put forward by Miami University are given the green light.

The Ohio University, which has a campus in Differdange in the south of Luxembourg, is in the initial stages to push for a centre encompassing cultural events and conversation exchanges.

The university dean and professor of political science, Dr Thierry Leterre, said an American cultural centre would "create opportunities for interaction".

He added: "English is growing in Luxembourg, and this would be a great way to give people the chance to learn more about American culture and have access to language resources."

The centre is an idea put forward by the university, and the next step will be to discuss collaboration possibilities with Luxembourgish authorities.

Leterre said the centre – which would be run by students for the public – would include cultural events, language sessions and conversation exchanges.

The Miami University Dolibois European Centre in Luxembourg (MUDEC) is an American study-abroad programme in Europe and was established 50 years ago.
