Owner of Fani restaurant in Roeser receives coveted Gault & Millau award.

After Yann Castano last year, it's the turn of Italian Roberto Fani to take the title of Gault & Millau's Luxembourg Chef of the Year 2019.

Fani, based in Roeser in the south of the country for just over two years, was a medal winner in a previous edition of Gault&Millau Belux.

He received a Michelin star in November 2017 and has now won the title of Gault & Millau Chef of the Year 2019 for his Fani restaurant with a score of 15 out of 20.

The award presentations for the new edition of the yellow guide took place in Hotel Le Royal in Luxembourg city centre on Monday in front of the press and local catering professionals.

The other winners are:

Lionel Marchand (La Pomme Cannelle) "Pastry Chef of the Year"
Morris Clip (Tempo) 1st "Pop of the Year"
René Mathieu (The Distillery) "Culinary Innovators Restaurant Philosophy Award 2018"
Anthony Masson (My Smile Language) "Sommelier of the Year"
Jennifer Murgia-Radelet (Yves Radelet Restaurant) "Hostess of the Year"
Claude Magnin (Postkutsch) "Tip of the Year"
Hannes Graurock (Luxembourg) "Discovery of the Year"

The guide also awarded its "Personality of the Year" to Jean Kircher, founder and boss of 'Pains et Traditions' supplying bread to many customers in Luxembourg and beyond the borders. The method of slow baking and the ingredients used, impressed the judges.

The Gault & Millau guide has 34 new addresses this year and includes a wide variety of restaurants including more trend-setting places with inventive, quality cuisine in tune with current times.

Morris Clip was named first in the 'popular' category this year for his Tempo restaurant, winning the title of "Pop of the Year".

The Belux Gault & Millau guide will be on sale from 5 November.
