Specially-crafted Luxembourgish doors to be installed at new recreation centre in Central Park

A special connection between Luxembourg and New York is taking shape at the Davis Center in Central Park, where 23 hand-crafted doors from Drinklange will soon welcome visitors. The world famous Central Park in the middle of Manhattan is undergoing some exciting new changes to be ready for every season – a new pool for the summer and a new ice rink for the winter. As exciting as this sounds for New Yorkers, why should that interest us here in Luxembourg ? The new Davis Center will bear a special grand ducal connection, featuring 23 large glass doors designed meticulously in the north of Luxembourg. For a whole three weeks, eight large boxes were heading from Drinklange, Troisvierges all the way to the Big Apple.

MUDEC offers students opportunity to explore a unique cultural landscape As universities worldwide boost their international efforts to help students engage with diverse cultures, languages, perspectives, global trends, and commerce, Miami is building on a tradition of more than a half-century rooted in Luxembourg. Miami established its Miami University Dolibois European Center (MUDEC) in 1968, amid social and political turbulence in both Europe and the United States, to give students meaningful international experience. The initiative, led by then-provost Charles Ray Wilson, chose Luxembourg at the urging of Miami alumnus John E. Dolibois, the vice president of advancement and U.S. ambassador to Luxembourg. Dolibois highlighted the country’s unique cultural landscape, manageable size, and central location that enables weekend exploration of neighboring countries. Simpson Thacher & Bartlett (STB) and Herbert Smith Freehills (HSF) have confirmed plans to open offices in Luxembourg, with both set to launch operations early next year. The move reflects Luxembourg’s growing role as a key jurisdiction for private capital and alternative investments in Europe. Luxembourg has become a significant hub for private equity and private capital funds, driven by its robust regulatory framework, long-standing expertise, and position within the EU single market. The country is increasingly used by private equity firms as the primary location for structuring and distributing funds to European investors. STB’s Luxembourg office will be led by three funds partners with the firm being well-known for advising major private equity fundraisers, including Blackstone, CVC, and EQT. Veterans Day, mourning Darrell Reed Bush, WWII veteran

       From the Embassy of Luxembourg in Washington, D.C. This year’s Veterans Day is especially sad for us as we learnt about the passing of Darrell Reed Bush, U.S. veteran of the Battle of the Bulge and a cherished friend of our Embassy. Darrell passed away peacefully at the age of 99. Our deepest condolences go out to his beloved wife, Dorothy, and his family. Darrell and Dorothy recently marked a remarkable milestone, celebrating their 81st wedding anniversary. We feel particularly fortunate to have been able to spend many meaningful moments together with Mr. Bush, telling us firsthand his experiences during the Battle of the Bulge. NATO Awards SES Contract for MEO Services for US, Luxembourg

NATO awarded satellite operator SES its first contract for Medium-Earth Orbit (MEO) satellite services under a partnership established in 2022.  The NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA), announced the MEO Global Services (MGS) award on Sept. 10. Luxembourg and the U.S. will leverage SES’s MEO services to carry out naval, air, and ground communications missions around the globe.  This comes after the U.S. and Luxembourg established a partnership in October of 2022 called the Global Commercially Contracted Satellite Communications Support Partnership (GCC SATCOM SP) to start a new era of space cooperation within NATO. The partnership allows for “pooling and sharing” of space capabilities among NATO members.  The MGS program was originally founded by Luxembourg and the United States is open to NATO Allies and partners.
