Luxembourg Government and SES Launch Second Phase of Satellite-enabled SATMED Telemedicine Project

Field-proven platform played a critical role in supporting healthcare personnel during Covid-19 and Ebola crises; will be further scaled to serve more users in cooperation with governmental organisations, multilateral health agencies and civil society organisations Luxembourg, 31 March 2021 – The Luxembourg Government and SES’s fully-owned affiliate SES Techcom launched the second phase of the SATMED telemedicine project that will run into 2024. Enabled by satellite, SATMED is designed to connect doctors and nurses based in remote locations to the outside medical world, providing access to the platform’s cloud applications for e-training, virtual consultations, management and storage of medical data records, and video conferencing. Developed in Luxembourg, the platform has been deployed since 2014 in 10 locations across Africa and Asia in partnership with NGOs. SES to Establish $17m Tech & Operations Hub in Virginia

SES confirmed on social media that it was expanding to Prince William County in Virginia, where it plans to set up a U.S. technology and operations hub. The company aims to create 200 new jobs over the next five years as part of this expansion. Viriginia competed with Maryland and Washington, D.C. for the project. SES will thus consolidate its satellite and network operations at the hub, which is to be located at 8050 Piney Branch Lane in Bristow, Prince William County, Virginia. Luxembourg to open healthtech incubator

Accelerating economic impact The health technologies incubator will contribute to accelerating the economic impact of investments made to develop public research in biomedicine in Luxembourg. Spire to list in New York after new investors come in

by Kathryn OGLESBY  The sale could come through by summer this year Luxembourg-based space firm Spire Global is planning to list on the New York Stock Exchange by the summer of this year, announcing this week that two groups of investors will buy new shares in the company. Stockholders in Spire Global would own 67% of the shares in the listed company, which is estimated to be worth $1.6 billion.  The new capital would come from defense and government technology investment fund NavSight, based in Virginia in the United States, which would merge with Spire Global, the company said. The newly formed company would also receive a €245 investment from US hedge fund Tiger Global Management and from funds managed by BlackRock, Hedosophia, the JAWS family office and Bloomtree Partners. COVID-19 from a Gender Perspective

Luxembourg's Ministry of Equality between Women and Men has initiated a research project with the Luxembourg Institute of Socio Economic Research (LISER) on COVID-19 from a gender perspective. The Equality Ministry has announced that it will analyse the impact of the COVID-19 crisis on equality (i.e. how the crisis affects women and men differently) through an in-depth research project carried out by LIST. The appearance of the coronavirus in early 2020 and the subsequent declaration of a state of emergency in Luxembourg had an impact on a multitude of areas of daily life, namely health but also crisis management, employment, public life, childcare, education, domestic chores and marital and family relations.
